Running with Purpose: Stephen Elms Takes on the Great North Run in Memory of His Mum
This September, Stephen Lewis Elms, founder of the Elms Method and Hall of Fame entertainer, will swap the stage for the streets as he takes on the Great North Run—all in memory of his mother, who passed away suddenly from SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome).
The run is more than just a physical challenge. For Stephen, it's personal.
Now a proud patron of SADS UK, Stephen is using the Great North Run as an opportunity to raise vital funds and awareness for the charity that stood by him during the most difficult time of his life. SADS UK works to prevent sudden cardiac death by placing defibrillators in communities and funding lifesaving research—work that has already made a measurable difference across the UK.
Turning Pain into Power
Stephen's decision to take part in the Great North Run is rooted in the same principles that define the Elms Method: resilience, purpose, and connection.
"The Elms Method is about turning pain into power, struggle into strength," he says. "Running this race is part of that. It's a tribute to my mum, but also a message to others: we keep moving forward—and we do it together."
Training for the half marathon has been both a physical and emotional journey. With every mile, Stephen hopes to honour the past while building a safer future—where more lives can be saved, and fewer families face the heartbreak of a sudden, unexplained loss.
How You Can Help
He's calling on friends, supporters, and the wider Elms Method community to help him reach his fundraising goal.
"Even if it's just a few pounds, every donation matters. Every step I take is for her—and for the lives we can still protect."
To support Stephen's run and donate to SADS UK, donations can be made through official fundraising channels. Every contribution helps fund defibrillators, research, and support for families affected by sudden cardiac death.
The ELMS Method in Action
This journey embodies everything The ELMS Method stands for:
E - Express your truth and purpose, even when it's painful
L - Listen to your heart and honour those you've lost
M - Message that inspires action and saves lives
S - Switch pain into power, grief into giving
Stephen's run is not just a personal tribute—it's a call to action. A reminder that we can all turn our struggles into strength, and our loss into legacy.
